Advantages: entertaining, magic
Disadvantages: the long wait for the next volume
A book where a little orphan from a stifling and unpleasant home begins his journey into a world of magic, a world of adventure and friendship and loyalty, where he follows the path of his parents to find out that he is anything but an ordinary little boy. But you knew that already, right? What do you mean, you haven't read it? I haven't heard that since the last person I had to lend my book to. But you have heard that critics find it mind-numbingly simple and not appropriate for children or anyone else? Well, let me tell you this: Rubbish! It is a good read, it is entertaining, it is definitely deserving of a place on all our book shelves. If you want a thought-provoking book, how about Mandela's "Long Walk to Freedom"? But if you are after a book that is unputdownable, will make you crave for more and whizzes you off into a world unlike your own then this is the book for you. Volume by volume it seems to get increasingly better and no-one seems to be able to stop it. There must be a reason why so many people have read it and I am sure that you will know someone as well. So either buy it yourself or borrow it from someone else. But one thing is clear: even you will succumb to Rowling's charming world of wizardry and magic.

- 20/07/01 I bought it after all my colleagues were talking about it. After about a week I am still on page 4, not that I don't like it, it's just I don't have time to read it at the moment.
I was hoping to find out some more details about the whole "Harry Potter" phenomenon from your op though... |
