Advantages: A good read
Disadvantages: er...?
Ssshhhh. Don't tell. Promise? I read the first Harry Potter Book -- Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. No big thing, aye? Hey, considering the feverish uproar regarding the string of books Rowling wrote about this little wizard, with the Moon Scar on his middle eye (middle of forehead), most folks would would be amazed that I've only read book number one! "What, you don't know Potterspeak? What's wrong with you..." etc... Well, truth be known, whenever too much is said on ANYTHING, I tend to deliberately stay AWAY. Too much of a good thing, overkill, etc., etc.. And I was determined NOT to get caught up in the uproar, NOT to read about Potter until the mutterings had somewhat subsided. However. I got curious. It caught me. Pottermania. Shhhhhhhh. Don't tell And... This is a FUN BOOK. I would recommend the read to adults (as well as children). Why adults? We need dreams. We need a separate reality. We need enchantment -- somewhere we can run to when our dreary little lives choke the creative soul right out of us. We adults need to laugh. Potter and his crew would provide that quite nicely, thank you. Some so-called adults would scoff at reading children's literature, i.e., it isn't "mature". Well, let me tell you. Children's literature is the way ALL literature should be written... TO THE POINT. CLEAR. CONCISE. Too often, adult writers believe that writing for adults means -- writing to sound educated. Not writing to be understood. Writing to impress. Pompous words. Too Many Words. Stuck-up, full of yourself writing. Folks who talk just to hear themselves talk. I like this book because it is SIMPLE and quite ENCHANTING. IT WORKS... Harry Potter's world is believable. THIS IS WORTH THE READ, ADULTS. Adults who fear the Potter books because they are "evil"
; -- are silly. I can't speak for the rest of the Rowling books, but I know this Potter book is on the subject of (a) friendship, (b) family, (c) caring about, and being considerate of, other people's feelings (d) good versus evil, i.e., the morality of being GOOD. GOOD wins and can still wave a mean wand! So lighten up everybody. Have fun. Read the Potter books. I won't tell. Shhhhhhhhhhhh.
