I remember when I was a child reading books that I found unable to put down, every page full of intrigue and excitement, my imagination would run wild and I was transported into other worlds; as I got older books became something I read for exams and no longer fun, I rarely picked up a book for light entertainment and it was a few years before I started to read books again purely for pleasure. Once I had time to rekindle my love of books I discovered I still got lost in a good novel but never felt involved the way I had as a child. A few weeks ago one of my sons bought himself J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter set of books and enjoyed reading them, well he is ... Read the complete review

Very often, hyped products don't deserve their status. Pokemon is an example. Clearly created for the merchandise, with the less profitable side-lines as a cause to justify the trading cards etc. I thought Harry Potter would be the same. I'm pleased to say I'm very much mistaken. JK Rowling has crafted a universe of such infinate imagination that it literraly comes alive in front of you. When Harry is stuck in a potions lesson, or out on the Quidditch field, you feel you are there too, and a clear plan of the environment can be made in your mind. Not from detailed illustrations, but from the vaguest of details. When a book can be sparse ... Read the complete review

You cannot only read the first Harry Potter book. Each one gets better and better. I go to one of the country's top comprehensive's and I would never have imagined seeing the whole sixth form engrossed in a Harry Potter book every break and lunch time. As an 18 year old, I expected to have grown out of children's books by the time I hit about 11, but after hearing a good review from a friend, I read 'The Philosopher's Stone' and became gripped. I couldn't put it down and it got worse as I read more. During lessons, we'd all hide the books under the table and keep reading! The best book so far is definitely the fourth one, ... I was really looking forward to reading these books because at the time the movie was just about to come out on DVD and there was still a lot of hype surrounding the series. The stories, incase you don't know, centre around young Harry Potter who was orphaned as a baby and brought up by his horrible Aunt and Uncle who are very snobbish and treat him like a bag of rubbish. He's also bullied by his cousin who is spoiled absolute rotten. Harry is treated like this because his Aunt and Uncle didn't approve of the fact Harry's parents were involved with magic and wizardry and they are determined to keep Harry away from that "nonsense". ...
