Jack's ultimate destiny gets a little bit closer.......

Haunted Air is the fifth (0r arguably the sixth) book in F.Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack series which ties into his larger Adversary cycle and features many events which will hold great signifcance for the re-edited version of Nightworld (the final Adversary novel) when it is re-issued after the Repairman Jack story arcs finally conclude.

This latest excursion for Jack sees our hero being convinced and cajoled into attending a seance by his long suffering girlfriend, Gia, after attending a rare social event. Despite warnings from a mysterious old lady walking past with her dog, Gia and Jack still decide to enter the house where the seance is being conducted but no sooner have they crossed the entrance than an earthquake attacks. Coincidence? Maybe....but as another old lady with a dog told Jack recently, "For you.....there will be no more coincidences!"

There are no surprises when it turns out that the two people who own the house are running a scam, but all of a sudden things take a more sinister turn! It seems the Kenton brothers, Lyle and Charlie, have started to be haunted for real! Add to that a fellow Medium who wishes to put them out of business and a vengeful spirit who has made a deal with The Other and what are you are left with is classic Wilson and a supernatural thriller that twists and turns right up until its shockingly dramatic climax!

I love this series and this installment is right up there with the best so far; providing loyal fans with yet another tale cunningly designed to draw Jack further and deeper into a fate he is desperately trying to avoid! Anyone who has read any of the other books in this series or in the accompanying Adversary Cycle will not be disappointed and a sub-plot concerning girlfriend, Gia, and her plans for Jack's future only serve to throw more complications into the mix! With little idea exactly where all this is headed (all I know is that a big showdown is on the cards at some stage, pitting Jack up against the force known to some as The Other and to others by the name of Rasalom), I am loving every new installment of this series and cannot wait to pick up the next book very, very soon!

Although Haunted Air can be read as a stand-alone, it is better experienced as part of the much larger series but in case this is your first visit to F.Paul Wilson's twisted universe, then be assured......Wilson's writing doesn't get much better than this! And if this latest book doesn't convince you to pick up any of the others in the series, you probably shouldn't be reading this review in the first place!
