After thoroughly enjoying Nobody True by James Herbert I couldn't wait to get my teeth into another one! Haunted is totally different to Nobody True but equally as brilliant. Just to summarise a little about the story before I go into my thoughts and feelings on this one. David Ash is a psychic investigator believing that most "paranormal" activity can be explained away by faults in the house and other non-ghostly things. He is personally requested to investigate a supposed haunting in a house in Surrey, England called Edbrook. The owner Miss Webb and her strangely eccentric extended family Christina, Robert and Simon Mariell report to David about ... Read the complete review

Haunted I read this one after The Ghosts of Sleath which features the same central character, this is a physic investigator called David Ash. This book however is actually the first featuring this character and as such I read them in the wrong order, this however wasn’t detrimental to the story but it did have a bearing on my expectations. As I had thoroughly enjoyed “The Ghosts of Sleath” I probably approached this book expecting more of the same, unfortunately it didn’t live up to these expectations, perhaps if Id read it first that might have been different. Anyway, back to the story. Ash is a strong character who claims ... Read the complete review

From the front of the book 'This is one of Herbert's best riveting, nonestop reading - Stephen King' This is not a typical horror story. It is pyschological horror which is chilling without the need for blood and gore. I was attracted to this book by its simple title and I felt after reading the synopsis that Herbert's style would appeal to me. After reading the first few pages I was enthralled. Whereas some authors like Stephen King I struggle with what he's trying to get across to the reader until much later on. David Ash, the main character, is a very skeptical psychic investigator who has spent years investigating paranormal ... Read the complete review

This is undoubtedly one of the best, probably just behind Moon and Shrine but I still wouldnt let to guess a favourite! Here again we meet David Ash, the alcoholic, chain smoking paranormal detective. That is to say he finds real reasons for suspected hauntings and is hugely cynical! Just my kind of character!! Ash goes off to take a look at a house called Edbrook where apparently funny going ons are occurring. There he meets the wonderful Nanny Tess, the nanny to the 3 grown up children Christina, Simon and Robert Marriell, and the dog Seeker, if the description he gives us is true, an evil looking bugger!! Whilst in the house he notices ... Read the complete review
