Advantages: entertaining

Disadvantages: none

Carson McCullers' first novel transports you to America's deep south and a world that is by turns innocent and corrupt. The reader becomes familiar with each character through their unique relationships with John Singer, the novels central figure. Singer is both deaf and mute and is subject to much misinterpretation. He is quite simply everything to everyone and becomes a canvas onto which his friends hopes and emotions are displayed. Carson McCullers lays bare the soul of small town America and tragically portrays the universally familiar search for a like mind. Very enjoyable and often gripping, 'The heart is a lonely hunter' is a magnificent read, enjoy!

Welcome to dooyoo, from me too.

I'm sorry to be mean with my rating but I'm with alkaliguru on this, - especially as this was one of the categories I enthusiastically requested (following my "Clock Without Hands" op,) but have yet to write-up... Mainly because Carson McCullers and her books are important enough to warrant "in depth" opinions.
