Heavy Water regroups 9 of Martin Amis's short stories dating back to the seventies. Amis, literary old boy in the sense that he is Kingsley's son, is sometimes considered to be a "man's" novelist, and indeed, some of these offerings were previously published in "Esquire". Others though, appeared alongside contributions from "feminist" writers like Alice Munro in the New Yorker, and the tone of the stories seems to me to be markedly different to that of the novels (although I like the novels too).
