Robert Heinlein has always been rather unrecognised here in the UK. Visit a bookshop and you will see maybe a couple of his books wedged in between Harry Harrison and all Frank Herbert's Dune novels. Surprising really, because in his native America Heinlein is widely acknowledged as the originator of science fiction in its modern form, responsible for encouraging a large percentage of modern writers in the field. Henlein's books are often based his own extraordinarily varied life, so some biography is essential to understanding him.
