The story starts centred around Arcana, a planet and a universe where magic actually works. Their whole culture and the expansive civilisation on the outer planets all depend on magic. Their magicians one day make a discovery and open a hole through space and so their exploration of other universes begins. They grow even richer and more bolder as time passes until one day they come across the Sharona's.
The Sharona's universe depends on technology and they are very advanced in that field. Soon a culture clash happens and the two societies are at war.
The tunnel through space becomes known as Hells Gate because to the 'magic' society technology is evil and demonic.
All efforts are made to close the gate but soon things will take an unforeseen turn and hell in both universes will really be unleashed.
They space battles are written quite well and easy understandable. The dialogue however is poor and none of the characters are fully formed. It was almost as if a child wrote it at times.
I was a little disappointed at first but it was an ok read, just.
You might like this book for its easy reading and so I will recommend it but warily.

Author - David Weber.
This will be a short and sweet, or should that be "bitter" sweet review.
The basic story line is a universe where Magic actually works, meets universe where technology is supreme
The Union of Arcana has journeyed through portals linking parallel universes.
In that time its soldiers and Sorcerers have laid claim to one uninhabited planet after another but all of that is about to come to an explosive halt.
The Union's scouts have just discovered a new portal, and on its far side lies a shattering revelation.
There is another human society, Sharona, which has also been exploring the Multiverse. The first contact between them did not go well. Arcana is horrified by the alien weapons of its sudden opponents, weapons its sorcerers cannot explain or duplicate. Weapons based upon science.
The initial contact snowballs into all-out warfare, both sides can agree on one thing.
The portal which brought them together is Hell's Gate.
This is a terrible read, you will be disappointed !
No depth to any character, awful dialogue and silly explanations of sorcery versus science.
So dull it made my teeth ache !!
Give this book a VERY wide berth.
The Union of Arcana has expanded through the portals linking parallel universes for over a century and a half. In that time, its soldiers and sorcerers have laid claim to one uninhabited planet after another-all of them Earth, and in the process, the Unio.
