I first read this as a 14 year old kid, and returning to it as a adult it is pretty obvious that this is what it was meant for. This is not however meant to take anything away from Hex as it is a excellent young adults book, and really understands it's audience (not surprising since it was written by a 17 year old.) The story revolves around a unique concept- humans who are also genetically computers. This admittedly baffling concept is pulled off with style set amongst the backdrop of a futuristic London. First thing that comes to mind? Dark Angel. There are so many similarities with the cult tv series, including the futuristic location, the dark haired, strong, mysterious heroine, the fact that she's on the run from the law, the techy theme consistent throughout both, the genetically enhanced hodge-podge, Hex is hardly original at a glance. Hex is a flashy sci-fi story, with everything you could possibly want for a trashy but sucessfully idealistic novel - Very pretty characters, (there's a different one for every type of reader to relate to), all 'wronged' by the law and set out to 'fight for the future', a lot of fancy technological ...
