Tyrannosaurus Drip - Julia Donaldson

Rating:
The career that dinosaurs made in popular culture never ceases to astonish me: from Jurassic Park to Dintopia to Walking with Dinosaurs, but particularly in countless books, cartoons, feature length films, toys and games for pre-school aged and bit older children. I have to confess that the dino-mania has never particularly got hold of me (although I did, actually, have a plum-coloured small one living behind a hidden gate on the way to my kindergarten). I suspect the appeal must have something to do with the fact that dinosaurs are semiotically "anomalous" creatures: both real (with their reality confirmed by science) and un-real (has anybody ever seen one?), dwelling on this ...

Rating:
The Snail and the Whale is a particularly endearing picture book for young children written and ilustrated by the fantastic team of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, probably best known for The Gruffalo At the start of the book we meet a little sea snail who is full of wonderlust and longs to travel the world. He is not like all the other sea snails who seem content to stay on their one smooth black rock. So the little sea snail takes matters into his own hands (mataphorically speaking of course!) and uses his slithery trail to write a message on the rock - lift wanted around the world! . The message is answered by a huge humpback whale who allows the snail to ...

becomes beached in a bay. As is to be expected, it is the wee snail who manages to save the day by rescuing his travel companion. About the Author/Illustrator Julia Donaldson is understandably one of the most popular and successful Children s writers of today and has enjoyed recognition for her work. The Snail and the Whale won the Blue Peter Best Illustrated book to read out loud award and her well-known Gruffolo books have earned her the best pre-school award from the Book Trust as well as the much sought after Gold Award. She excels at creating simple rhymes which kids can easily follow and chant with you and writing uncomplicated text. My 2 year old has a short ...
