Advantages: brilliantly written, lovely pictures, easy reference
Disadvantages: none
This has to be one of the best general british history books ever written. History can be a dull subject but Simon Schama brings it to life in this essential book. There are some beautiful photo's in the book, some of which I have never seen before. It will be an excellent reference tool for children studying any of the periods of history that are covered because it's not too heavy and so children shouldn't have too much difficulty in understanding it, or indeed, remaining interested in it.

- 14/06/01 Moistoist, I didn't loathe history at school! I loved it - it was all good stories. Sorry about the SU rating nikkikl. Feel free to e mail if you change it, and I'll re-rate. Welcome to dooyoo, and don't worry, we all made the same mistakes to start with. |

- 14/06/01 apart from the cringing below, they're right, needs a bit more info (but have a read around and you'll get the idea of what gets the v.u.'s and crowns - which make the most money)...and a warm welcome to you....
Schama, I reckon, is the Bronowski of this generation...fascinating stuff packaged in a way that really shows a passion for history as opposed to the subject that we all loathed so much at school... :-) |
