Postcards from No Man's Land - Aidan Chambers:
... from No Man s Land is a book that I was bought as a present, I initially thought it was about letters from journalists who were reporting from disputed border zones and started reading the book without reading the back cover, to my surprise it was nothing of the sort. I only got through about 3/5 s of the book as it was just so awfully boring that I had to give up. The story is about a 17 year old wet kid... Sniper One: The Blistering True Story of a British Battle Group Under Siege - Dan Mills ... begin with, may i explain that i went to the trouble of getting this put on dooyoo myself, because of how brilliant i really thought it was. from one page to the next, there was no time for sleep. for 10 hours ( near enough straight ) i sat and read this book and didnt put it down unless i had to. ok so what is this book about? quite simply its a sniper platoon, which are on a peace keeping tour in southern Iraq. but this soon goes pear shaped and they end up having to fight for their lives the book begins with a prolouge, an insight of what these boys really did get into. it begins by throwing us into the deep end, a gun fight. big, bad and certainly ugly. as ... Hitler's Empire: Nazi Rule in Occupied Europe - Mark Mazower ... fascinating book gives the history of the Nazi Empire in Europe. It s one of the best histories of the Nazi era that I ve read recently. Hitler s armies conquered most of mainland Europe but, apart from the Holocaust and the ever-contentious history of the French occupation, how the Germans ruled their newly acquired empire wasn t something I knew a lot about. It tells the story of German conquests from the absorption of Austria in 1938 to the collapse of the regime in 1945. It also goes back in time to discuss the origins of German imperialism and the First World War. Although military matters inevitably feature, it isn t military history; this is mainly political ... Into the Wild - Jon Krakauer ... the wild For some reason I had not heard any of the hype involved with this film and therefore did not even know it existed. I saw it one day on the shelf of Woolworths and decided to give it a go. The fact that I had heard any of the hype for this film allowed me to enjoy it much more, as my expectations were not elevated and I could make a calculated conclusion without any other opinions or views getting in the way. I believe that all the characters in the film were cast expertly, even though some do not match up very well with the person they are based on in reality. I however am willing to let this go, firstly because I am not obsessed with tiny criticisms, and... Read the full review: 'Into the Wild': An Inspirational and Moving Tale. by BowieJ |
