This is a factual account of the shipment of a boat load of women prisoners from Britain to the then newly established penal colony in Australia (where Sydney is now located). Mao: The Unknown Story - Chang, Halliday ... first thing I should probably point out before starting this review is that this is not the kind of book that ordinarily I would read but, after finishing Wild Swans by the same author last year, I became deeply interested in this paticular period of Chinese history and wanted to discover just how one man could come to have so much terrifying power and influence over a country. I read Wild Swans as part of a read-a-long with other members of an online book group and, to be honest, this was one of the most moving books I had ever read. It was with that in mind that I picked up Mao; an epic journey through Chinese history that has taken me a whole 10 months to read! No ... Mary Queen of Scots and Her Hopeless Husbands - Margaret Simpson ... This book is part of the quite popular Dead Famous series which I quite recently got in a box set and each book averaged out at about £2 instead of the usual £4.99 which was quite a bargain and encouraged me to buy these books! The books is 208 pages long but could be read quite quickly die to the fact it is similar to the Horrible History books and has various cartoons, letters, pictures in it which keep the book from being boring but also take up quite a large amount of room. This particular book is all about Mary Queen of Scots and her exciting life. Within a week of being born her father died so Mary became Queen of Scots and a monarch - not bad! She is soon s... The Hero Inside - Gill Shaw ... Today the word hero is too often used; for me it is a very special word and should be used sparingly: a hero is someone distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility and fortitude. This wonderful book by Gill Shaw is to raise funds for just such men and women injured in the line of duty whilst serving our country - REAL heroes Ross Kemp, Patron of Help for Heroes. This book came to my attention when I was looking on the Help For Heroes charity website in their shop. I am a supporter of the charity as my husband is a soldier and so too are my brother and his wife. For me it is a wonderful charity which is dong so much for our injured soldiers and personally I think ... Read the full review: Real Heroes by sewbizzie |
