Advantages: very, very funny, well written, extremely original
Disadvantages: none
Douglas Adam’s witty and humorous writing style accompanied by an original and fast-moving plot makes ‘The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ one of the best and funniest books I have ever read. The books starts with a pretty average man called Arthur Dent, who wakes up one morning with a hangover only to discover that his house is about to be demolished to make way for a new bypass. As it turns out, this doesn’t really matter, because the world is about to end! Fortunately, Arthur and his friend Ford Prefect manage to hitch a ride on an alien ship, and escape the earth’s destruction. This is the start of their adventures, and the unrolling of a fantastically written story. I strongly recommend this book, it doesn’t matter if you’re not particularly interested in Sci-fi books at all, I’m not either and I loved ‘The Hitch-hiker’s Guide’. It literally had me in fits of laughter all the way through, no kidding! It does seem a bit weird in parts, but if you’ve got a sense of humour (and I’m sure you do) then you’ll love it to bits!
