Advantages: Funny, Entertaining
Disadvantages: Not very serious
The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy- the book that started as a radio play and ended up as a trilogoy in five parts, have to be one of the most hysterical books ever written. Imagine the end of the world. Imagine chaos. Imagine confusion and mulitply this by infinity. In the middle of this you can put a manic depressive robot, an ex-president of the universe on the run, a coupple of mice, a poor guy named Ford from Betelguese, two earthlings, the meaning of life and God's final message to his creation. Also a theme that keep going through the book, is the calming phrase:"DON'T PANIC". And that is just a bit of it... As you may have understood by now, the story in the book is not taking place on Earth, and usefully enough it also comes up with an emergency route in case you have to leave our planet in a hurry. Honestly, to read the Hitch Hikers Guide you will need to be a person with a certain kind of humor. Opening the book and expect a tidy and precice guide about the universe and its different galaxies, stars and whatever, will NOT be the right attitude to start reading with. My friend, who started reading the book, gave it back to me with a very uncertain smile, saying "yeah, it seems good but it is a bit too crazy for me." Sure. Fair enough. We can't all like the same books. And I am sure that if you reading this havn't read the Hitch Hikers Guide, then you will have heard a lot about how fantastic it is. And please don't get me wrong, I am not saying the book is not fantastic, because it can be- depending on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a humorpacked crazy trip with weird people and elevators that are scared of heights, chatty mattresses and the person that designed the coast of Norway, then you will like this book. If you are looking for some serious stuff, then I can tell you that you won't. Personally, I think the books is a laugh
from the beginning to the end. The Hitch Hikers Guide hit just my kind of humor, and I keep cathcing myself in quoting it. "Hey, Ford, you're turning into a penguin! Stop that!" Yup, there is one example for you... and that is not the best one of them all, but I am not going to quote the book here. To meet other fans of the book, you can go to http://www.h2g2.com You see, if I made you curious enough to go and read it, I think you should. And if you feel like you want to go and read this book, then I certainly won't keep you here much longer! But before I finish, I would just like to say a few things to the memory of Douglas Noel Adams. I am sure you have all heard about his death, which really caught me by surprise. However, even though I think it is sad that my favourite author is dead, I am not going to write about that. I'll finish just by saying :"Douglas Adams- So long and thanks for all the fish! May he have remembered his towel." And if you don't understand why I say that, it is time for you to do some reading... if you think you can take it, that is...
