Terry Deary is one of my favourite childhood authors. He is a delight to read, and his series of Horrible Histories books are definitely a winner with me. One of the books by this title is The Angry Aztecs.
Cover:
The cover to the Angry Aztecs is quite interesting. It has a picture of somebody who has been captured, and it appears that he is about to make a journey of what looks like a thousand steps. The main shades are yellow and orange, and its brightness does draw in your attention.
Plot:
Before I read this I hadn;t really heard of the Aztecs so it was quite a nice read indeed. I learend a lot about them, and in such an interesting way too! There are a lot of witty and humerous parts to read, making the gruesome sound funny. There were also illustrations and diagrams which help a lot as people do tend to remember things in picture form, and they stand out much better too!
Suitability:
The entire series is aimed at children in the aged 9-12 bracket, and I could not agree more. The text is a nice size and is easy to understand too! The pictures naturally attract children, as well as making learning all the more fun for them. Though of course there is no reason why anybody older cannot enjoy it! It is a great way to start off when you decide to learn about the specific topic and is a nice light read too, with 128 well laid out pages.
Price:
You can buy this book for just 1p from Amazon.co.uk. Even when you take into account the £2.75 postage and packaging fee, that is still wonderful! Often the books are almost brand new, so you really are getting a bargain, compared to the RRP of £4.99! It would definitely be money well spent!
The Angry Aztecs is a fantastic read and very interesting too! You learn without realising it and it certainly ticks all the right boxes!
