The series of books known as Horrible Histories is a collection of superb books by author Terry Deary. I love reading these, and one of the titles in the collection is The Cut Throat Celts.
Cover:
You should never judge a book by a cover, but let's face it, most of us do! This particular book has a very dashing green cover. You can see pictured three rather threatening men dressed in white cloaks, with a knife pointing it towards a topless, defenseless soul. It looks quite gruesome and scary, I couldnt wait to read!
Plot:
Like a few other topics, the Celts were something I knew not a lot about. However this book changed it for me, as now I am so much more aware! I was 'educated' ina fun loving way as the 128 pages of the book are filled with witty and funny comments and facts to make reading more humerous. There are also illustrations and diagrams which are eye catching and also help me remember things a lot more too! It is definitely an exciting read!
Suitability:
The book is aimed at children from the ages of 9 through to 12. Indeed, I feel the book is suitable. The text is a nice print size and is easy to understand, with not too complicated language despite the jargon. The pictures make it more attractive, and they can learn without even realising it! However it does not mean that the book is unsuitable for anybody older! It is a great book to read when you, as I was, are first learnng about the Celts and acts as a stepping stone for you to progress onto the harder facts!
Price:
You can buy this book for just 1p on Amazon.co.uk, which is a fantastic price! Even when you consider the £2.75 postage and packaging, it is still a real bargain! Considering it originally had an RRP price of £4.99, you are saving a fair bit! It is definitely going to be money well spent.
This is an educational and entertaining book which you are likely to come back to time and time again, and is a delightful read too. It certainly ticks all the right boxes!
