Horrible Histories: The Groovy Greeks - Terry Deary
by AmyAmy - written on 12/06/09 (Very useful, 6 readings)
Rating:
Terry Deary is a fantastic author. He is famous for his collection of books known as 'Horrible Histories'. These books cover a wide range of topics in History and are supposed to make learning fun for children. One of these is the Groovy Greeks. Plot: This particular book takes us back in time to the time of Ancient Greece and Greek Mythology. It's one of the original books by Deary but despite being older it still displays fantastic work. The pictures inside are delightful and there are a lot of interesting facts that children can discover. Age range: Although the books are aimed at children in the 9-12 age bracket, I do think it is suitable for anybody ...

Horrible Histories: The Savage Stone Age - Terry Deary
by AmyAmy - written on 12/06/09 (Very useful, 4 readings)
Rating:
is without a doubt one of my favourite subjects, it always has been and always will be! So there is no surprise that I love the Horrible HIstories books by Terry Deary! One of these I adore is the Savage Stone AGe. Cover: You should never judge a book by its cover, as they say, but I always do! This one has quite a bright blue colour. There is a man with a spear in one hand, and what looks like to be a brain in another. It is all very gruesome indeed, and surely lures you in! Plot: The book covers the the Stone Age and what it was like for people to live during that period. Deary uses a lot of illustrations and diagrams to make things clearer, and there are a lot of ...

Horrible Histories: Ruthless Romans - Terry Deary
by AmyAmy - written on 11/06/09 (Very useful, 36 readings)
Rating:
There are a few authors which take me back to my childhood. Alongside Jacqueline Wilson, Nick Inkpen and Roger Hargrieves, theres Terry Deary. He writes a series of childrens books called Horrible Histories, and one of these is The Ruthless Romans. Cover: You should never judge a book by its cover, but I must admit, I do do it! The cover of this particular book. There is a lion threatening a Roman in the Colliseum, and the Roman fighter looks terrified! It is quite colourful with deep shades of red leaping out, making it seem quite terrifying and interesting. Plot: The book, naturally, is all about the Romans and how they lived their lives. It covers highs and lows of ...
