 ... days. The book has really simple words in it, and it's ideal for a complete beginner to have a try at. I think a lot of 3 or 4 year olds would manage a good deal of this. On most pages, there are just two words, and a lot of those are phonetic words like "dog, hot, not". For example, the story goes "dog is hot" on one page, and then the next features the text "boy is not" and shows a boy cooling off with an ice cream. Hot Dog is a level one early readers book from the series Step Into Reading. It costs £2.77 from Amazon, and it's an American book with a retail price of $3.99. The fact it's American doesn't affect the suitability of the book for an English child because the words are all in standard English. The only slight Americanism is the appearance of the word "Mom" but then that's a common spelling to find in a lot of children's books these days.
