Advantages: Very realistic

Disadvantages: Too much drama, characters are too flat

I am an avid Danielle Steel fan and I love all her books. While this book is extraordinary, it just does not, in my opinion, exceeds expectations judging from the numerous masterpiece penned by this woman. It is a nice, domestic drama about a happy little family. The drama occurs when the woman loses her husband and is left to fend for her children all alone.

If I were to read this novel alone, I would say that it is a fantastic novel with genuine warmth and emotion. But I always like to compare novels by the same writer, so I would say that this one, in comparison to other Steel novels, seem a little flat and dull at times. The plot can sometimes have too many twists and turns and this contributes towards making it sound highly artificial and fake at times.

For the characters I would say that I tend to admire strong women characters in novels, but despite the courageous actions of main female protagonist in House on Hope Street, I remained quite indifferent by the end of the novel This is mainly because, in contrast to many of her other novels, Danielle Steel did not manage to really breathe live into the characters of this book. They are quite un-lively and do not really jump out of the pages to pull your heartstrings. In addition, I must say that it is quite a short book, and too many incidents happen in the few pages.

I will not, however say that it is a disappointing or horrible read. The book is genuinely nice with thematic realism. However, I expected a little more from such a literary genius. But it is a good book for some light entertaining read!

Thanks for reading!
