This was one of those books which I thought I was going to enjoy but felt a bit let down whilst I was reading it. It was actually in the humour section of my bookshop and after reading the first few pages I figured it was going to be a good read. It is basically a diary entry style story, narrated throughout by a baby in its first year. We are never told what sex it is or what the name is either. He or She being simply known as 'baby.' I think it is up to the reader to make it up their own minds about it, in my opinion I see the baby as being a boy. I was given this book just last night by a friend who was having a book shelf clear out - and I finished it this morning, thinking 'I wish I'd read this as a new mum.' Most parents, at some point, will have had one of those days when their new baby just wouldn't stop crying - You feed it, you burp it, you change its nappy, and still, it wail . If you're like me, you probably look at your baby with pleading eyes, and wish you knew what it was thinking, so you could sort it out and get some sleep.
