This is one in a collection of Nigella Lawson cook books, rather than simply showing amazing pictures of incredibly rich foods and giving recipes that have so many ingredients you'd forget what you were making, this book gives sound advice on what recipes to make using certain essential ingredients and as ever, some ridiculous ones. The book offers some practical recipes more than many of Nigellas other books but it still lacks the common touch, the chapters are as follows: Charts and Conversions: A handy section giving advice on weights and measurements. Oh, I know I shouldn't, but I regularly read this book in bed. I've cast my novels and my travel books to one side and now I drift off to sleep dreaming of elegant al-fresco dinner parties on the patio. Not that I'll ever have these dinner parties - my patio is too small to accommodate more than two at a time, but we can all have our dreams. This book has sat on my shelf for a couple of years, unread (actually it's moved house with me three times, but that doesn't sound as good!) Anyway, the reason I'd dismissed it as a recipe book is because I find it hard to use. I have read the other dooyoo ops on this book and everyone sings its praises. Nobody dwells on the fact that this is a confusing book - maybe I'm missing something, but this book has me in a muddle every time! +++What's wrong with it?+++ I love the food, the end result, but I found I just don't have time for the bits in-between. Is it a cook book or a lifestyle magazine? That was my first thought when I saw this book as it just looks so good. I hadn't been Nigella Lawson's biggest fan previous to buying How To Eat, I'd always found her Sunday Times reviews a little stagnant and pretentious, so I hadn't paid much attention when this book came out in hardback. Then, on yet another occasion when my husband complained about my cooking skills (don't worry, he's French, so he does most of the cuisine chez moi), I decided it was time to buy myself at least one cook book.
