This is one in a collection of Nigella Lawson cook books, rather than simply showing amazing pictures of incredibly rich foods and giving recipes that have so many ingredients you'd forget what you were making, this book gives sound advice on what recipes to make using certain essential ingredients and as ever, some ridiculous ...  Read the complete review

I have owned this book for a number of years and have found it useful in every way. The recipes are clearly laid out and the ingredients not too obscure. Nigella introduces each recipe, but most importantly for me, she also offers alternative ingredients, where, for example a particular cut of meat is not available. I have particularly enjoyed the ...  Read the complete review

Oh, I know I shouldn't, but I regularly read this book in bed. I've cast my novels and my travel books to one side and now I drift off to sleep dreaming of elegant al-fresco dinner parties on the patio. Not that I'll ever have these dinner parties - my patio is too small to accommodate more than two at a time, but we can all ...  Read the complete review

This book has sat on my shelf for a couple of years, unread (actually it's moved house with me three times, but that doesn't sound as good!) Anyway, the reason I'd dismissed it as a recipe book is because I find it hard to use. I have read the other dooyoo ops on this book and everyone sings its praises. Nobody dwells on the fact that ...  Read the complete review

If you love cooking but get the urge to hide under the kitchen table when the latest celebrity chef cries 'Julienne the celeriac!' then Nigella Lawson is probably already your domestic goddess. Her two previous books, Chef'o'lard and How to Be A Domestic Goddess have established her as a food writer who combines innovative and delicious recipes ...  Read the complete review

Is it a cook book or a lifestyle magazine? That was my first thought when I saw this book as it just looks so good. I hadn't been Nigella Lawson's biggest fan previous to buying How To Eat, I'd always found her Sunday Times reviews a little stagnant and pretentious, so I hadn't paid much attention when this book came out ...  Read the complete review

This is not the normal cookery book, it's more like a story book interspersed with recipes. Nigella talks you through every recipe, how she got to try it herself in the first place, what she thinks of it, when she used it and what others thought of it. She goes through cooking for ones and two's, cooking for children, for the weekend, ...  Read the complete review

If it's not one brilliant recipe with this woman, it's another. This first collection of her work has been on the shelves for a number of years now, but has become a really big seller on the back of her excellent TV series. The book succeeds in exactly the same way as the programme- through simplicity. These are real recipes for real ...  Read the complete review

A cook book for people who see cooking as the thing you do before eating. Compare and Contrast with Delia's 'How to Cook'. None of the patronising, school-marmy, I know best tone here. What is most striking about this book is that it is so readable. Other opinions here complain about the lack of illustrations. Well, in some ways ...  Read the complete review

Sorry - bad title, but that is what it is. I find that Nigella never fails to bring up a tasty dish when I can't think of what to eat. Personal favourite is the Carbonara recipe. No cream involved (which I never have anyway) and only the most basic ingredients that everyone has in their cupboards and fridge. That seems to be the heart of her ...  Read the complete review
