Advantages: Lots of scripts for various therapeutic reasons

Disadvantages: Doesn't explain the theory or what hypnosis actually is

After developing a major interest in psychology, NLP and hypnosis I decided to rent this book from my local library. Though it doesn't really explain what hypnosis actually is or how it works, it does provide some advice and useful information on the way to performed hypnosis, mainly for therapeutic reasons, and how to operate when starting your own hypnotherapy practise. Overall, the book is mainly made up of a set of scripts but it doesn't actually explain how these scripts work or affect somebody.

There is also a lot of variety contained within the book, such as how to hypnotize children, diet control, curing phobias and giving up smoking. The second half of the book contains a load of scripts for several different purposes which comes in quite useful. The author really provides most of his insights from his own personal experiences of practitioning, such as suggesting that using hypnotherapy on members of the opposite sex can cause them to become a little infatuated with you!

Though the book doesn't really delve into the theory side of things very much or explain what hypnosis is and how it works, it does provide a number of various techniques which can be used to lull your subject into trance. This book isn't really going to provide you with any detailed information or advanced information on hypnosis but is really more of a starting point for people wishing to give hypnosis a go.

Summary: A very basic book describing some good starting points for trying out hypnosis

I know what you mean Tracy 1127, but you can pretty much learn whatever you want if you look in the right places, whether it's dangerous or not. And look at NLP - it's taught everywhere and includes hypnosis yet there is no officially recognized government accredited qualification.

As a fully qualified hypnotherapist I think these kinds of products are dangerous, you're effectively attempting to mess around with someone's subconscious without knowing what you're doing, why you're doing it or what the outcome will be. It's madness that they sell this as there are lots of small things to watch out for during hypnosis that have a major impact on the treatment. Thanks for reviewing it so I could rant!!

Sounds interesting ... makes me think of the Little Britain "look into my eyes" sketches.
