I Heart London
Lindsey Kelk. She is a British writer who now lives in New York. She has written a number of books including: the I Heart series, The Single Girls to do list as well as the short story Jenny Lopez has a bad week. She also has a column in Marie Claire and blogs about fashion, make-up and her life. Her new book About A Girl is out this summer and the much anticipated I Heart Christmas is to be released in December this year.
Angela. The loveable main character. She's a British journalist living in New York. She loves to shop, despite the fact that most of the time she has zero money or ruins her purchases (think Marc Jacobs Satchel in a water fountain). She's engaged to rockstar heart throb Alex Reid. He's cute, funny, loves the socks of Angela and is many women's latest fictional crush, mine included. Jenny is Angela's best friend in New York. She's gorgeous, full of life and wants to be the next Oprah. Sometimes after one too many cocktails, or a surprise glimpse of her ex befriend, she can turn into a bit of a crazy bitch. And there is Louisa. The English best friend, who has know Angela for most of her life. They grew up together and shared many drunken nights at university. She's a new mum, married and is very, very different to Jenny.
So Angela and Alex are officially engaged. Wedding plans are non-existent. So when Angela's mum invites her back to England for her birthday party, no good excuse can come quick enough. Angela, Jenny and Alex head of to sunny Great Britannia. Here America meets England. And all does not go accordingly. Louisa and Jenny hate each other, bickering at every opportunity. Angela is terrified of Louisa's new baby, although Alex is a natural. Her parents. Well they are her parents. Grilling Alex at every opportunity and making the couple sleep in separate rooms. But when Angela's mum suggests that the wedding should be in England all hell breaks loose. What's more Angela has a very important work meeting to attend. And there is the likes of her ex-fiancee Mark. The cheating scum bag who wet met in the first book. What could gone wrong?
As an avid fan of Lindsey Kelk and the whole I Heart Series, I was extremely excited when I first read this book. We all know that Angela is from London, and now finally we get to see exactly what she was running from, or more importantly who. I was excited at the prospect of Alex meeting her family and her friends. Which did not disappoint. He was charming. They were judging. Totally relatable in every way. One thing that I was a little disappointed in was the fact that Louisa and Jenny did not get along straight away. I know they are both different characters, but I would have loved then to meet first time, and fall straight into gossiping and shopping happily together. But I suppose that would have been a little too good to be true. What I also loved is seeing London and England properly through Angela's eyes. Kelk has such a way with words when describing the sights of say Paris and Hollywood, that I couldn't wait to see how she would approach London. All in all it was a brilliant read. The drama, the characters, everything was perfect. I just can't wait for the next one.
