This is a lovely book for children from approximately 2 years upwards. It's very simple but can lead to quite a bit of discussion and children drawing comparisons between this and their relationship with their parent or main carer. - The Story - It basically deals with a young penguin telling it's Mum or Dad (I can't decipher the sex of the adult penguin!) what it likes to do with them, e.g. 'I like it when you hold my hand.' 'I like it when you let me help.' 'I like it when you tickle me.' 'I like it when you read me stories 'I like it when you hug me tight.' And so on.......... until the final page ... I received this book as part of my sons first Book Start' pack (for ages 0-12 months) which was given to me (for free) by my health visitor. Of all of the books in the pack, this one was my sons favourite and we have worn it out with so much reading. The story is very simple - a little and big penquin who love doing all kinds of things together, reading stories, splashing in the bath, tickles etc. Each page starts with 'I love it when...' and shows an activity that they share. I Like It When is a gorgeous little book that was in a bag of baby items donated to me by a neighbour who knows my baby granddaughter is that little bit younger than her granddaughter so could make use of the toys and books that had been outgrown. This is a lovely board book that my 14 month old granddaughter has loved since the moment she first saw it. It's a vibrant red colour throughout and really stands out on her bookshelf, I think this is why she was first attracted to it but now it's turned into a favourite story and game. The two penguins in the book are lovely, they are sweet and definitely drawn to appeal to babies and toddlers. My ... Read the complete review

This is a lovely book about two penguins, it is called “I like it when ………” and is written by Mary Murphy. On the front of the book is two penguins giving each other a hug and the book is described as being “The perfect children’s classic for everyday sharing.” ****The Story**** Each page starts with the words “I like it when …….” and then on each page the baby penguin says another thing that he or she likes.
