"I Love You, Blue Kangaroo" by Emma Chichester Clark should, I think, be one of the must-have books of any small child's library. It's a beautiful story with many a message to be enjoyed and discovered with your child. Blue Kangaroo is a soft toy and much loved friend of Lily, a typical young child. Blue Kangaroo likes that he is loved and feels secure in Lily's arms at night. But things start to change. New toys are introduced as gifts for Lily and each night Blue Kangaroo finds himself further and further away from Lily's arms (and, it would seem, affection) until one night he finds himself so far away that he falls out of ... ***Background*** Emma Chichester Clark is responsible for not only writing this series of books but illustrating them as well and this book was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal. As well as the Blue Kangaroo series, she has written many other books including the ones all about Melrose and Croc. ***The Story*** The story starts with a little girl cuddling her toy. "Blue Kangaroo belonged to Lily. He was her very own kangaroo. Every night, Lilly said, 'I love you, Blue Kangaroo!' And Blue Kangaroo fell fast asleep in Lily's arms." Things start to slowly change for Blue Kangaroo ... Read the complete review

I Love You, Blue Kangaroo! By Emma Chichester Clark I asked for Dooyoo to add this book so that I could review it, as it is my favourite book in the series and the one that I bought for my children first. ***What's it all about?*** As before, this book is about Lily and her favourite soft toy Blue Kangaroo and addresses the issue of being left out. Lily tells Blue Kangaroo that she loves him, last thing before she goes to bed every night. Then one day Aunt Jemima comes to tea and give Lily a wild soft brown bear. Lily exclaims that she loves Wild Brown Bear and he takes pride of place next to her in bed that night - Blue ... Read the complete review

This is my all time favourite children's short story. It is a delightful story of a blue kangaroo owned by a little girl called Lily. He sleeps next to her in bed. The blue kangaroo starts to feel unloved because Lily receives a number of new toys who take up more and more room in the bed and eventually there is no more room for blue kangaroo. I won't spoil the ending but this book is so well written and the illustrations are very well done. The look on the blue kangaroos face as each new toys arrives in the bed is very funny. The book has a lovely happy ending and is a joy to read over and over again. We have the board book version and I think this was a good ... Read the complete review
