I bought this book only because of the cover and funny title. I wanted something that was an easy read for the summer and I figured a book of essays with a quirky title would be the ticket. 'I Was Told There'd be Cake' is a book of 15 essays written by New York City Girl, Sloane Crosley. Reading other reviews on this book people compare her to David Sedaris, if I'm honest I don't have the foggiest who that is. For me, it's like Carrie Bradshaw and Sophie Kinsella ran head on at each other and formed into one girl - Sloane Crosley! This book was perfect for dipping in and out of.
