I’ll always love you a book by Peaony Lewis illustrated by Penny Ives.
On one of my recent jaunts to the charity shop I discovered this book for only 40p, I snapped it up New R R P it costs £9.99 My copy from the red cross charity shop was of course second hand but it is in very good condition .The book I have is a hard back but there is a soft back available R R P 4.99p. Look around on Amazon or EBay or you will find it cheaper or look in any book shop it may be in the sale there. The book was first published in 2000 by Little Tiger press.
I’ll always love you whatever you do is something we all want to hear and do we not all love our children regardless of their behaviour. .
This book is about Alex bear he loves his mum and one day he runs downstairs and try’s to make breakfast for his mum, she’ll like that he thinks . Ohh dear when Alex reaches for the honey CRASH he breaks his mums favourite bowl. Alex then goes to find his mum who is doing her morning exercises He asks mum will you always love me if , and he goes through several scenarios and his mum replies “ I’ll still love you, honest every time”. Eventually they go to the kitchen and find grandma sweeping up the broken bowl. “That was my favourite bowl says mum” Alex bursts into tears and says “you said you would still love me. I love you” Mum picks up Alex and cuddles him reassuring him that she still loves him. Alex feels a bit better now. He wriggles out of her arms and runs of to make a surprise .he gets out his paints and paints a plain bowl, He then gives this to mum and mum smiles and said now this is my favourite honey bowl
This book is lovely it gives me a warm feeling when I read it to Adrian he snuggles up to me to hear the words and see the pictures. Penny Ives has drawn the pictures softly the bears have lovely expressions you can see Alex looking worried when he breaks the bowl , you can see the love in his mothers smile when she hugs Alex at the end. The pictures do tell the story to children if they can not read and are looking at it on their own. This book is suitable for preschool children, children aged between 4 and 8. . It is a book for a mum to tread to her child which will reassure them that they will always have their mums love whatever they do Alex asks if he has a pillow fight with his friend and gets feathers everywhere or he pours s grandmas lumpy porridge over his head will she still love him the answer is always yes .Although this book is mainly about mum and Alex dad and baby are in it too so is grandma clears up the broken bowl makes the lumpy porridge. Mm not sure this grandma likes that view of grandma bear, although my custard is well known for lumpiness, ohh well.
After this story you could tell your child you will still love him if he ……….. Mention silly things he/she does like pour all the cereal into his bowl or?
As well as reading this at home it would be good for school use to for PSHE lessons a good book to get children talking. The words are ones that once a child can read a little bit will be able to read, especially if they have heard you reading the story.
This book is translated into Danish, French, Dutch, Korean and Taiwanese. So children all over the world will hear those words. I love you
Reading is important and this book is one that for an adult is nice to read to your child not very long 32 pages The book measures 10.5 inches high9.3 inches wide is a thin book only 0.2 inches thick . It is a good size to hold and read to a group of children. The pictures are large some full page.
I am glad I bought this book for Adrian we had a lovely read, he will now take it to his home for his book shelf
Summary: A book about a bear called Alex and his mum who always loves him no matter what he does .
