Advantages: Great detail and plenty of action

Disadvantages: Not for everyone

Firstly, I am a long standing fan of the Andy McNab books, starting with Bravo Two Zero right through to his latest fiction novels.

Immediate Action is, however, non-fiction and this is why I feel it is his best work.

McNab gives a detailed, graphic and emotive insight into his difficult upbringing and subsequent journey through his adult life. He does so in a way that makes you warm to him and also allows you to glimpse how life is when you are in the British Special Forces. I find the SAS intriguing subject and this book gave a superb insight into the life they lead and the grueling selection process that candidates have to get through in order to be even considered for application. McNab captures this through this book and allows the reader to get a real taste for army life.

McNab talks about his time spent intelligence gathering against the IRA, covert operations and hostage rescue.

I really enjoyed reading this book and have even been back and read it a further two times. The detail is excellent. My only concern would be that if you were not remotely interested in this subject then you may find it slightly uninteresting for you.

Summary: Action packed book for the intrigued reader!
