Published in 1976, this is one of his earlier books. This one is about a painter (of horses, no less) who finds out that a gang of forgers are successfully selling forged Stubbs paintings all over the world. Our hero decides to track them down after his friends get stung. He follows the gang to Austrailia and on top of some very exciting escape scenes, Francis writes an amazingly descriptive account of Melbourne during the Melbourne Cup. Again, this is a very exciting book and impossible to put down. Francis explains how a painting can be forged and how the gang have been getting away with it. Always a happy ending though! ...
