Advantages: my daughter loves it
Disadvantages: gets repetitive
My 15 month old daughter is Upsy Daisy mad at the moment. For this reason I bought her this book as an addition to her In The Night Garden growing collection of items.
Ooh Pretty Flower is a book which focuses on Upsy Daisy wanting to look at flowers. If you have children who watch the show, you'll understand that this is Upsy Daisy's thing to look at pretty flowers.
The book starts with Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle looking at flowers. Upsy Daisy wants to find more flowers but Iggle Piggle wants to ride on the train otherwise known as the Ninky Nonk.
There are fourteen pages in the book and each page has a few lines, telling a short story about how Iggle Piggle wants to ride the train but Upsy Daisy wants him to go with her to find more flowers.
I find these books are just the right length for my daughter. Any longer and she loses interest. Obviously at her age she is more interested in looking at the pictures, and the pictures in this book are all on hard backed pages and very shiny and glossy which attracts young children to look at the pages.
The pictures are all great quality and are real images from the TV show, not cartoon imitations. This helps the young child associate the characters with what they see on the TV. My daughter is great at pointing out the different pictures, and with Upsy Daisy being her favourite at the moment; she adores this book seeing Upsy Daisy on every single page.
As the book is short, it helps the parent having to read the book, as anyone with young children will know that they like to have things read to them over and over again. This book will probably only take a couple of minutes to read depending on how drawn out you make it. I like to extend it by finding items on the pages for her to point at, but mainly we read the story over and over again.
The actual book is fairly sturdy, but if you read my review of the Iggle Piggle flap book we have, I find that they can be ruined fairly easily by young eager hands. I have learnt my lesson on this score and prefer to keep certain books out of the way and let her have the older ones in her toy box. This book does have a good spine and I think it would be difficult to break but it wouldn't stand against a toddler trying to close it inside out.
Ooh Pretty Flower is published by the Penguin Group, and can be purchased for £3.99, but I'm sure avid bargain hunters can find it for cheaper.
This book is number two in the In The Night Garden series of books.
Summary: another in the night garden book
