Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino once again fight off the bad guys in a well-written novel by Clive Cussler. Cussler is a master storyteller, and brings his own knowledge into his characters. It has always seemed to me that Dirk Pitt is Clive Cussler's alter ego. They share a love of underwater excitement and classic cars, and as Cussler writes about these, his love and knowledge show through.
Dirk Pitt is your classic hero, good looking, always gets the girl, the usual stuff but it is the rest of the story that shows his strengths. He is a hardworking guy, always seems to in up in the thick of stuff. A kind of a cross between an underwater scientist, archaeologist and Rambo.
Cussler always weaves a good tale, and this one is no exception ...pitting Dirk and his sidekick, Al, against a merry band of latter-day pirates, in a search for lost treasure - the Inca Gold. It's an excellent read, and as always I found it hard to put down. Cussler writes tight and very descriptively, you sense the terror, feel the action, can see the underwater scenery. If you've never read a Clive Cussler book before, this will whet your appetite for more.
