Advantages: Tackles a sensitive subject with warmth and humour

Disadvantages: Sam and Lucy were often too annoying for you to want them to succeed

Inconceivable is the fifth novel from the talented Mr. Ben Elton (script writer/comic/author/director) about a thirty-something couple, Sam and Lucy. Sam is a TV executive who dreams of being a writer while all Lucy wants is to be a mother. The story is told through a series of personal diary entries where Sam and Lucy write their innermost thoughts on the prospect of infertility, their realationship and their careers, as well as a few secrets that could destroy their marriage. Elton combines sadness with humour in a commendable style, with the reader close to tears one moment and laughing out loud the next.
The book has since been turned into a film (under the Americanized title of 'Maybe Baby'), written and directed by Elton.
