The Informers is a selection of shorts, each written in the first person, with the main character of each also the narrator. The characters are linked to eachother, sometimes strongly (along familial/ plutonic lines) and others not so (they may share the same psychiatrist). The Informers was written over a period of years, and Ellis kept coming back to it when he got writer's block whilst working on his other novels. It is, then, suprising that this is such a remakable piece of work. It details, almost totally, the life of the affluent, neuvo-riche of American society. This book may disappoint people who are looking for another 'American Psycho', but this is another masterpiece from Bret Easton Ellis. Cleverly, the book takes the form of apparently unconnected short stories, each about a different character. However, as the book progresses, it becomes obvious that the stories are connected, and that Ellis is building a complicated portrait of the lives of the well-off. What sets this book apart from those with a similar theme is that the book actually makes you concerned for it's self-pitying, rich characters. A brilliant book. ... Read the complete review
