Advantages: Writes super books for children ..
Disadvantages: None
Do you know who Mick Inkpen is? You probably will know his name if you were a child or have had a child since 1989 In 1989 Mick published his first children’s book the blue balloon. We have a copy of this in our book corner at school.
Mick is just a couple of years older than me. He was born in Romford Essex in 1952 .Before he started publishing children’s books he was a graphic designer working with Nick Butterworth , together they developed a cartoon strip for the express on Sunday magazine . Since this time he has written and illustrated many children’s books. Becoming a top seller and winning many book awards.
The books Mick Inkpen writes are mostly for young children foundation stage, or key stage one or two abilities. You may know a lot of his books. The Wibbly pig series, the Kipper series, books about bear, books about school events sports day and the trip.
The books Mick writes for children cover colour recognition, opposites and number. Books with weather topics such as kippers snowy day some books that are about Jesus like the stories Jesus told. .
Wibbly pig books are written for preschool children really they are simpler than Kipper the topics are more on the line of activities a toddler might do like Wibbly pig likes bananas or is it bedtime yet Wibbly pig.
Some of these books are published as board books and paper backs. Some are lift the flap books .One of my favourite books by Mick Inkpen is Threadbear a story about a teddy with a squeaker that will not squeak. However Threadbear is a much loved toy and on Christmas Eve the other toys send him up the chimney to Father Christmas to see if Santa will fix his squeak. Threadbear has an adventure where he gets sooty and eventually lands in the garden , not quite as he went up the chimney he is washed a dried and miraculously his squeak works , .
All of Mick Inkpen books are good easily accessible to children the words simple ones children would use. The pictures are great. The children dot eyed round faced with warm colours. While reading /looking at the book you can point out the animals features and expressions are they happy sad? If you wish to see a full list of Mick Inkpens work go to. http://www.jubileebooks.co.uk/jubilee/results.asp? aub=Mick%20Inkpen&m=121&dc=149 there are 8 pages listing his books published by Hodders children’s books.
Some of the books are available as audio books on CD or tape. There are many kipper films and kipper is a TV and DVD star now delighting children with his antics on screen. I have seen children in T shirts with Kipper on.
So to sum up Mick Inkpen is an author and artist writing many, many popular children’s books with great art work.
There is a website that has kipper pictures and fun and games for your child http://www.hitentertainment.com/kipper/game_colour ing.html
Summary: A writter and artist who has sold many childrens books
