Advantages: Saves you loads of money, Knowing what goes in your drinks and a Great Funny Read
Disadvantages: Not knowing what one to make first as they are all good!
Well I don't know where to begin with this book !
I came across this book when I was in the local library about two months ago, being all my kids were getting into doing shakes and smoothies as their fitness regime I thought I'd give this a quick read ( it might work out cheaper than keep buying the cartons as it was costing me a small fortune each week!).
Well what a great book, it begins by giving you a guide about what sort of juicer you should buy, ( the one they recommend is only about £30 which I thought was very reasonable!). Also I didn't realise that you don't just juice
everything you blend and squeeze. A juicer is for hard stuff like apples, carrots, beetroot ect... A blender is for soft stuff like assorted berries, bananas, melon ect... and a squeezer is for the juices of lemons, limes, oranges ect...
After going through the list of different fruits to juice, blend and squeeze you are ready to start making your smoothies! The recipes start off really easy with ones that only need a few items like their Strawberry and Banana one ( it only needs apples, strawberries, bananas and an orange )
At the bottom of each recipe there is usually a little helpful tip or funny remark! It then has some information about fresh or frozen fruit and veg whats best ect..
The information about cleaning your juicer and what to look for before buying is also helpful. I like the pages that have the "while-u-wait workout"
which are excercises to do while you are juicing like the Push Pineapple,
William Tell, Monkey Tennis ect... It then goes on to tell you what things do
not taste to good when juiced like tofu, onion juice and cauliflower juice!(which they say they have tried and they were disgusting!)
What I didn't realise was that they have a foundation for helping other countries around the world and with each book sold they will give 10% of the profits from the book to this foundation (www.innocentfoundation.org).
It gives you a small insight to what they do in each country on a couple of the pages.Next there are even more recipes for more smoothies ( I can't believe how many there are to make!!)
Every few pages or so you will find a page of useless information which is quite funny to read like Mental Interlude, X Marks The Spot, Keep It Tidy and The Innocent Wee-ometer ect...
At the start of each recipe there is usually a funny remark as well as at the bottom of most of the recipes, but it does also have some quite useful
information as well. Towards the back of the book they have a 'What Shall I Drink Section' which shows you what smoothie to make for different times for
example : Waking you up ~ Orange, mango and lime
The morning after ~ Pomegranate and blueberry
Healthy glowing skin ~ Carrot, apple and ginger
Lovely pregnant ladies ~ Broccoli, pear and kiwi
Getting things moving ~ Prune and nutmeg
Bedtime ~ Dark chocolate and cherry
there are a lot more ect..........
The contents of this book seem to cover everybody who enjoys smoothies
as the recipes are very easy with fruit and veg which are easily available in most shops! They have recipes of all sorts such as smoothies, thickies, veggies, juices, posh stuff and kids stuff ( as they name them in their contents page!). This book has 192 pages which makes good reading as well as great drinks! I will have to take mine back to the library soon so that someone else can enjoy it, but I will be going out to buy it as soon as it goes back!!! This book costs £12.99 but might be cheaper on some websites. (I believe it can be got for as low as £7 )
Summary: A really good book for all ages as there is something for everyone to like!
