Advantages: Great storyline and unlikely hero, Raulph Roberts

Disadvantages: Suggest for seasoned King readers

I've read just about every book or story King wrote up and including this one. Insomnia really was the last straw... Ever since he wrote The Tommyknockers, King's books have become more and more burdensome: too many pages for an undernourished plot, unnecessary deviations from the actual story etc... Insomnia is a good example: the idea isn't actually that bad, although a bit overzealous in the spiritual department. But the story just doesn't evolve. I kept turning page after page after boring word-crammed page, hoping for something to happen. The characters go absolutely nowhere, there are no interesting idea's or plot developments whatsoever. And then, at the book's bleakest moment, King throws in a few references and hints from his Dark Tower series. Now, the Dark Tower series is good, don't get me wrong. But it seemed to me he'd rather have written about Roland et al than about this sorry bunch. It was like he saud to himself "Hey let's try to get this story moving, I'll throw in a bit of the Dark Tower". This is not the first time I noticed King losing interest in a story while he's writing it. A far cry from his days of glory, and I hope he gets a grip shortly, but none of his recent books appeal to me in the least...
