Advantages: A followon to the dark tower

Disadvantages: Not too horrific

I like he wand so I like Steven King’s books. Insomnia is one of the last of his books that I have read so far.
I suffer from mild insomnia myself, and so I liked the way the book makes you imagine of what can happen if you have no sleep for a long time.

The story is as usual very deep, and ties in with the Dark Tower books.
Its plot (I don’t want to ruin the whole story) is that an old man, Ralph, who has recently lost his wife, starts to get insomnia. It turns out that his insomnia is a result of a plan created by beings on a higher level, and he’s the pawn for the good guys. The books main event is the arrival of Susan Day, a pro-woman campaigner who has set up abortion clinics all over America. The bad forces take One of Ralph’s best friends and use him as a pawn against him.

The book’s not all that much horror; it’s more fiction than anything else. There aren’t any real ‘monsters’ like vampires or werewolves. There are mystical beings and the likes, but they aren’t really ‘horrific’. Most of the events in the book are just people being moved around as pawns in a war between good and evil.

The book has quite a big thing on destiny, and how you cannot change what has been set in motion, no matter how much you try. I like this book, as the ending is a happy, and yet sad one. I recommend this book for Steven King fans and insomniacs alike.

It makes reference to, and borrows bits from, but I'm not sure it really "ties in" with the Dark Tower, to be honest.
