Advantages: Another great read
Disadvantages: none
To me Insomnia is classic Stephen King, at his best he really takes some beating. Insomnia falls in the category of “It will take some beating.” The central character Ralph Roberts is a regular guy, except he has insomnia, following the slow death of his beloved wife who had cancer. After a long time (with plenty of sleepless nights) he begins to see auras around people. Most are healthy looking, others look sickly and deadly. Without knowing it, he has messed with "long-time business" and is now expected to save over 2,000 pro-abortion protesters from the nice chemist Ed Deepneau, who used to live down the street from him, (before he turned into a crazy wife-beater) assisted by two mystical creatures, named Clotho and Lachesis. Atropos, the 3rd, and most evil creature is doing everything it can to keep Ralph and his "lady-friend", Lois Chasse away from saving the protesters from Ed Deepneau... and his plane loaded with explosives The story is gripping and so unlike anything else that I have read that it really is so difficult to predict how it will end. Just when you think Lois and Ralph may live happily ever after Atropos make another appearance and causes the sad, yet surprising ending. No doubt all hardened Stephen King fans will have read this superb book already, but for those who have not yet ventured into the unusual (I was going to say warped!) Mind of Stephen King, it is a great introduction into his works and really sets the standard of things to come.. Read it and sleep well!!

- 11/05/01 Great op. I'm a big fan of Stephen King and mainly enjoy his older works. I have just recently purchased The Stand on video, it a fantastic six hours long, thats never boring.
I have to get hold of a copy of Insomnia, as it sounds quite good. |
