Dimanche, Le 4 Novembre When the TV Series of this much touted (or should that be ‘pimped’?) book appeared on ITV2, I inadvertently watched a couple of episodes. The series was nothing special, just one of those will-they-won’t-they romances between an ordinary boy and an ordinary girl (who happened to work in the sex trade). Easy viewing for a late night winding down, cup of hot chocolate in hand and dog on lap. So, when I saw the book in ASDA for £3.50, I thought it might be much the same. I was wrong. For a start, Belle is not simply the ordinary posh girl entering the sex trade for a bit of a laugh and a ‘Poor me’ story. The first thing that ... Read the complete review

Having watched a couple of episodes of this on ITV2 starring former Who-girl Billie Piper, I was intrigued enough to pick this up upon a recent visit to my local Tesco...to be fair I found it a little disappointing, something of a very damp squib in fact!! Belle is a prostitute- not the sort you see wandering the streets to fuel a drug habit at the mercies of a sinister pimp, but a higher class of working girl posing as an escort and working for an agency who manages her clients. From very early on, she is exceptionally frank and honest about what she does and what she is expected to get up to and the whole thing is written as a series of diary extracts that ... I bought this book for £6.99 from WH Smith, it's available in paperback adn hard back and prices vary hugely. I picked up this book after the much publicised TV show "Secret Diary of a London Call Girl" was aired on ITV 2 earlier this year. First I think it's important to point out the differences between the two The TV Programme Seemed like a great idea at the time, sexy, new and exciting, but turned out to be lacking in any real substance, a little bit vague about the dirty details of things and all over far too quickly! The Book Pure filth and very very funny, rambled on a bit at times. Now I have worked as an ... Read the complete review

My friend lent me a couple of books a few weeks ago to keep me occupied as I seem to have read my way through my local library's appealing collections at the moment. The first book I selected to read was "The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl" by Belle de Jour which has since been made into a television series which I've viewed a couple of times. This is the first novel by Belle de Jour which is of course not the writer's real name but merely used to protect her identity. This particular book was published back in 2005 by Orion Books, her second novel in 2007 and her third followed this year. The Plot This book is quite similar to ... Read the complete review

It’s not often that the release of a book, particularly an author’s debut, is newsworthy. In recent times every word from J. K. Rowling has made the headlines, but she’s an exception. However, it was BBC London News that first made me aware of “Belle de Jour: The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl”. As is my way, I was only half listening and paid little attention. When a friend lent me a copy of the book, I remembered where I’d heard of it before. I wasn’t aware that the book had formerly been a weblog and so went into it with no real expectations. Apart from the ones you get from seeing a book with “Intimate Adventures” in the title. By ... Read the complete review
