Struggled to read half of the book. Was so disappointed I went to the internet to see if I was missing something. Found your execellent review and was glad to find someone who agreed with me. Cornwell should go back to her area of expertise and leave comedy to Woody Allen. The characters are contrived, situations unreal and dialog wooden. The plot wonders aimlessly. The historical references defy description. I usually read Cornwell's books in one sitting. I have been trying for three days and doubt that I will ever finish. ...
