The first time my 4 year old son read this, he read it 4 or 5 times! He loved it! The book centres around Eddy and his Mum, who take a picnic in the woods. Eddy is convinced that there is a bear lurking in the woods. Unconvinced, his Mummy nips back home to fetch the blueberry pie she forgot. During that time, Eddy has an encounter with the bear - but what happens next? Well, Eddy's Mum returns still not believing that ther is a bear - but when she turns around... ARRGGGHHH!!! 'It's The Bear' by Jez Alborough is one of those books that I end up reading to my two year old again and again and again. In fact, I've read it so many times that when he asked for a bedtime story while away at the weekend and I didn't have a book to hand, I ended up reciting the whole book from memory. And, once I've finished, he just said 'again Mummy'.... The book is written in rhyme and tells the story of a little boy called Eddy who goes to the woods with his Mum for a picnic. However, Eddie is scared of the woods because of the bear that lives there. His Mum, in typical Mum style, tells him that there is nothing to be afraid of and then leaves him alone ... It’s the bear Eddy’s back with the great big bear. Children who have read Where’s my Teddy will instantly recognise the characters and for those children who haven’t read the book, no worries, they are not follow on stories…no need to read the first to thoroughly enjoy this one. ~~Story ~~ We start with Eddy and mum walking through a quite idyllic wood scene, but although mum is striding ahead with the picnic basket, Eddy is loitering behind clutching his small teddy.
