Advantages: Simple recipes that won't take up too much time or money

Disadvantages: Jamie's smug face on the dust jacket

I must admit, I saw the accompanying TV programme that this book accompanies, where Jamie Oliver deeply patronises my fellow South Yorkshiremen by teaching Rotherham to cook, and ended up thinking this man is an iredeemable prat.

So I inwardly groaned when my girlfriend got this book for Christmas. However a quick flash through the recipes had me realising they all looked kind of tasty...

Since Christmas we've cooked six meals from this book. While not the lard-munching morons Jamie represented us as in his TV show, we're not the greatest cooks in the world, but they've all turned out absolutely delicious. The beauty of the book is that the meals have actually been chosen for simplicity and speed of cooking, and will mainly fit into most people's schedules and budgets. I'd definitely recommend the beef and ale stew - possibly the greatest thing I've tasted in my life, and definitely the best thing that's come out of my own kitchen!

I'd 100% recommend this book for anyone who can follow a recipe and wants to cook tasty, wholesome, yet quick and fairly easy food. Yes, the whole "pass it on" mission the book comes with is cringey, but look past that and you've simply got a great cook book.

After eating some of his recipes I have to admit the man is probably a genius. And that's a very different name to what I was calling him when he was on TV...

Summary: I have to admit it really is quite pukka...

I thought the show was to sell the book at Christmas to northerners and I wont change my mind on that.
