Advantages: easy and wholesome dinners

Disadvantages: not much in the way of cakes and baking

I saw the TV programme and liked the look of the type of recipes that Jamie was teaching so I got the book at Christmas and I was not disappointed.

This book is full of recipes for real wholesome food which so far I have found to be delicious. It may not be posh dinner party style, but it is definitely hearty nutritious food that I would happily feed my children and serve up to friends.

I had got into a routine of cooking the same few recipes over and over and was looking for new ones to make dinners more interesting but while still using normal everyday ingredients and things you would often already have in the cupboard. This book has been ideal and I have been using it at least weekly ever since getting it.

Particularly useful to me is the chapter on mince (the beef wellington was great and a nice change) and the variations on the stew recipe, especially the dumplings which my husband now wants with everything! It even explains the theory behind a decent salad and gives you plenty of scope for your own preferences.

I enjoy the satisfaction of eating a decent homecooked meal and this book will keep me going all year! It has lovely pictures, including pics of the preparation stages so you know if you are on the right track!
Thoroughly recommended if you like good grub.

Summary: the most useful cookery book i have
