Advantages: Taught me to cook!

Disadvantages: Patronising anf holier-than-thou

Jamie Oliver is just one of the preachy celebrity chefs that are trying to guilt trip us into eating more healthily and to cook it ourselves, what's happening to the world? First the wholegrain cereal ads go all self-righteous, not the chefs are doing it too?

Although he seems to have set his goals a little too high (I'm sure that not just anyone can cook, whether they have a recipe book in front of them or not) the book is quite entertaining and witty for a recipe book and has different sections that are relativley obvious; breakfasts, starters, main courses etc. now what sets this book aside is the idea that you learn one recipe and then pass it on and then, by Jamie's own calculation, all of Britain will be able to cook- genius!

Now, I haven't actually passed a recipe on yet but in my defense, the book isn't mine! However, I have learnt to cook several things that I would have been lost over before...now instead of some posh nosh style "lemon lobster in a creamy blue cheese dressing" Jamie teaches basic recipes for everyday food such as the roast dinner or a healthy fry up and I have used both of those many times since learning them.

Another thing I enjoyed was the tales from the real people that have been aided by the book. The quality of the book is also great, lots of pictures and step by step instructions that sometimes give off the air of being patronising (I mean, why include a recipe on chopping up fruit?)

So all in all, a good cookery book...not a great one but it taught me a couple of recipes which I guess was the point of the book.

Summary: Well, it taught me!
