Far more than words on a page (Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte)
Member Name: scribus impius
Advantages: Superd book, a true classic Disadvantages: A few dull sections, extremely feminine
I'm studying this classic for my AS English Lit course, and as such I have to pick it apart in some detail. Even so, I am still finding it a fantastic book; I can understand its undying popularity completely. Bronte has a superb writing style, carefully tweaked over the years of work. Partly autobiographical, it follows the life of Jane Eyre, a young orphaned girl, through her time with her wicked aunt, at school and finally in her long love affair with the rugged Mr Rochester. I will not give away this ending, but suffice to say you will be engrossed up to the last page and for weeks to come. Summary: |
