Advantages: Superd book, a true classic

Disadvantages: A few dull sections, extremely feminine

I'm studying this classic for my AS English Lit course, and as such I have to pick it apart in some detail. Even so, I am still finding it a fantastic book; I can understand its undying popularity completely. Bronte has a superb writing style, carefully tweaked over the years of work. Partly autobiographical, it follows the life of Jane Eyre, a young orphaned girl, through her time with her wicked aunt, at school and finally in her long love affair with the rugged Mr Rochester. I will not give away this ending, but suffice to say you will be engrossed up to the last page and for weeks to come.
Another important aspect of the book comes from its deeper symbolism. I expect a lot of people just read it for the story, which is well worth it on its own. But when you get to look at it in this way a whole new world opens up, giving a deep insight into Bronte's complex personality and just how hard she worked on this story.
So, what can I say against Jane Eyre? Not much, to tell the truth. It is deservedly called a classic. However, I can pick out some faults in my opinion. Bronte's writing is good, but in places slightly over the top or unbelievable. In addition, there are some sections which seem to drag on and go back on themselves. The other thing is that this definitely is a very feminine book; if your after serious, gritty action, don't turn to Jane Eyre. If you aren't, then read it. You will not be disappointed.
