Advantages: FANTASTIC STORIES
Disadvantages: A BIT HARD TO BELIEVE
Danny Wallace's book JOIN ME is a great read full of humour. Based on true events, though some may have been made up Wallace takes us on his 'stupid boy' project.
After attending a funeral for a great uncle he never knew Danny Wallace reads something by his late Uncle Gallus that simply says join me. As a tribute to the uncle he never knew Danny tries to start up a cult by just posting on the internet join me. Not knowing what he is actually asking people to join, particularly when it starts to get popular, Danny decides it should be for good deeds. With people sending him their passport photos through the post Danny gets addicted to his cult. All the while his girlfriend Hanne grows despondant while his friends think he's going mental. Join Me takes Danny all over the world and starts featuring in papers and television shows. He even unwitingly supports a criminal. Can his relationship with Hanne survive throughout all this though?
At over four hundred pages this is a great story. Wallace's writing is easy and full of humour. The stories particularly one with his friend pretending to be in a limousine are hillarious. His relationships with people he doesn't know are mostly positive and show that it's better to be nice than bad. The dedication of the joiness is unbelievable. The introduction of new characters with interesting stories really adds to the book. Overall, the positiveness of the book is really heartwarming.
The only slight negative is that it's hard to believe Wallace would get this addicted to a group that basically means nothing, while meanwhile he ignores his beautiful girlfriend and friends. There is some swearing throughout the novel, but it's mostly harmless.
However, you want the Join Me group to survive and I even ended up joining it as you will if you read this great book!
Summary: JOIN ME FULL OF POSITIVE ENERGY
