Intervention - Julian May
by Redhead23 - written on 30/06/01 (Very useful, 443 readings)
Rating:
If you have previously read Julian May's brilliant 'Saga of the Exiles', or even if you have just read my Op on it, then you may know that there is much more to the story than just the first four books, 'The Many-Coloured Land', 'The Golden Torc', 'The Nonborn King' and 'The Adversary'. While the 'Saga of the Exiles' is an excellent fantasy/Sci-Fi story that can be happily read on its own, it does leave quite a few storylines open, both in the Beginning and in the End - and for anyone eager to find out the truth, 'Intervention' is the next step in the line. Although during the follow-up 'Galactic ...

Intervention - Julian May
by Waagh - written on 21/06/01 (Very useful, 38 readings)
Rating:
Intervention, by Julian May, is a prelude to the Galactic Milieu trilogy, itself a sequel (and prequel) to the earlier Saga of the Exiles. Intervention tells the story of the first generation of the Remillard dynasty, a family with high psychic abilities, in the years just prior to the Galactic Intervention. The story of what happens after the intervention is covered in the aforemention Galactic Milieu trilogy. The basic premise of the book is that Humanity is entering the next phase of it's evolution, the gaining of psychic powers. Once it has done so, and those blessed with such powers have been accepted in to society, humanity will be accepted into the ...

The Many-Coloured Land - Julian May
by RAPIDO - written on 21/05/01 (Very useful, 40 readings)
Rating:
I first read this book soon after it was published (1983, I think) and was captivated by the ideas and concepts embodied in it and the rest of the series (set both after and before this book). There are so many storylines and themes within this series that it is difficult to know where to start, especially as things which appear unimportant in this book become central to the main storyline later on. However, I will do my best and try not to give too much away for people who haven't read the books yet. This book is set in the 22nd century (to start with, anyway) and focuses on a time-gate that has been developed by a scientist in France. This time-gate transports objects back ...
